"Cultural Centre"

Photo of the stately home of the Salazar family, now the municipal arts centre

The building known asCasa Palacio de los Salazar has housed an array of tenants throughout its history. Thanks to the restoration work undertaken by the municipal government and the financial support of local institutions, it has been transformed from a half-ruined building into a Cultural Centre open to the entire community and all those who visit Labastida.

Before it was restored, the Casa Palacio de los Salazar was used by the Civil Guard, served as a public school and was the home of several families; as its name suggests, in its early years it was the home of the Salazar family.

Restoration work on the building was carried out in several phases and lasted from 1983 to 2000.

The Casa Palacio de los Salazar (Casa Cultura Kultur Etxea) is located in the stately Plaza la Paz, to one side of the Labastida Town Hall building, with its 18th-century Greco-Roman Renaissance architecture, and opposite the 17th-century parochial church, with a four-spouted fountain occupying the centre of the square.
The layout of the building is arranged according to its different floors:

* Basement: ecurrently under construction.

* Ground floor: this floor houses the Public Information Office, the Youth Club, Multi-Purpose Hall, Pensioners' Home, and toilets for men, women and the disabled.

* First floor: management offices, children's playroom, library and archives, an assembly room, and services for men, women and the disabled.

* Second floor: two handicraft rooms, music room, storage and boiler room.
